DrawingInstructor: Newberry Can’t DRAW??Interested in learning how to draw? This class will proceed where you left off in art class in middle school or elementary school. It is designed for students who think they have limited drawing skills and will keep, improve and hone the skills of those with some drawing skills. If you are thinking about AP Studio at some point, this is absolutely the class for you. First semester is the basics and second semester uses the basics and introduces more sophisticated artists and ideas. Second semester will include engraving, live drawing from a model and working in various media including some unusual ones.
You will be expected to buy a sketch pad, keep a file of drawings and magazine pictures. You will have to supply sketchbook, pencils, erasers and a portfolio. Otherwise just bring your right brain and an open mind. Open to all levels.
Materials needed: One sketchbook 9x12 ( 100 pages). One set of drawing pencils: 2H, 6H, 2B, 4B, 6B. One white vinyl eraser, one kneaded eraser, 4 or 5 tortillions. One hand pencil sharpener.
Description: In this class we will look at many different media in the realm of 2-D work with a focus on painting in watercolor, tempera, acrylic and printmaking techniques including silk screen and mono-printing. We will explore using fibers to “Paint” and collage work as well.
3-D Studies (Spring Semester) Instructor: Newberry This class is designed for those people who like to work and think with their hands, even if you feel like you are artistic. All of the work in this class is 3-dimensional. You will be expected to keep a sketchbook, have your own pencils and an eraser. We will work in clay, plaster, construction, destruction, altered books, armatures , found objects and fiber designs.
Materials Needed: One 9x12 sketch book, one drawing pencil ( 2B) , one white vinyl eraser, $10.00 clay fee. There may be other materials that you might need to locate.
AP Studio Art- Drawing, 2-D, 3-D Instructor: Newberry AP is an intense year of working on pieces in and out of class. Students are welcome who have had drawing or 2-D and have shown the instructor a portfolio. Students will complete 12 pieces of area of concentration work , and 12 pieces of breath work . Students are responsible for 5 days a week working in class and outside of class. Students will photograph their own work and be able to submit work online along with submitting their best five pieces. Anyone who is seriously thinking about art career interested in the fine arts and just like an exciting challenge is welcome to come. You MUST submit a portfolio to the instructor. Studio AP may be taken up to 3 times: AP 2-D, AP 3-D and AP Drawing.
Duration: 1 very intense year Be prepared for a true GROWING EXPERIENCE
Materials needed: 9x12 inch sketchbook, a MUST HAVE A large ( 20x 28 ) portfolio, many other materials may be needed for purchase from the student and the teacher.
AP Art History Instructor: Newberry This class is THE AP CLASS you should take if the visual world is interesting to you. It covers 35000 years of the visual arts. If you ever wondered about cave paintings or what Roman art looks like or why our buildings have columns and porches this class is for you. We study the world of Western Art through the Ancient Worlds, the Classical World ,the Medieval World and Gothic World, the art of the Renaissance, the 17th, 18th19th and 20th Century. We even look at the work of the 21stCentury as well. We look at the worlds of imagery in Indian, Chinese, and African Art. Be prepared to learn about paintings, sculpture, architecture and a brave-new-world of vocabulary.
Oh and in the end, you get an Official APART t-shirt. This is much more interesting if taken in conjunction with World History.
Materials needed: Summer Assignment, notebook,(s) lap top, note cards or other note taking device, , one 2nd edition Barron’sreview book, and a REAL, LIVE HOMEWORK ETHIC.
